Arizona DPS fees are paid directly to the Arizona Department of Public Safety and are separate from LionHeart Security Services training tuition.

Arizona DPS Eligibility Requirements

All Security Guard and Armed Security Guard registrations are issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS). Students should review the following minimum qualification requirements before registering for training.

Minimum Requirements for Security Guard Registration

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony.
  • Must not have certain disqualifying misdemeanor convictions.
  • Must not be the subject of an active arrest warrant.
  • Must not be a registered sex offender.
  • Must not have been legally prohibited from possessing firearms, when applying for Armed Guard registration.

Additional Requirements for Armed Guard Registration

  • Must meet all Unarmed Guard registration requirements.
  • Must complete AZDPS-approved Armed Guard training.
  • Must successfully complete firearms qualification requirements.
  • Must be sponsored by a licensed security company.

No. Arizona DPS fees are separate and paid directly to Arizona DPS.
How long does it take to receive my Guard Card?
Most students should allow approximately 4–6 weeks after DPS receives a complete application package.
Is this class offered in Spanish?
Currently, classes are offered in English.
Do I need a DPS account?
Yes. Tucson armed students should have an AZDPS Public Services Portal account and a Fieldprint account.
What should I bring to range day?
Bring your firearm, ammunition, eye protection, hearing protection, and identification.
Do I need sponsorship?
Arizona DPS requires Armed Guard applicants to be sponsored by a licensed security company.
Can this class be used for renewals?
Yes. The class may be used for both new applicants and renewals.
When can I begin working?
Students may begin working once Arizona DPS issues the registration.
Do I need to bring my own firearm?
Students should bring their own firearm whenever possible. Contact LionHeart in advance if assistance is needed.
Can I take Unarmed and Armed back to back?
Yes. Students may complete both courses, subject to DPS requirements.
